1. Introduction

These Terms and Conditions govern your use of the Abhyasa School of Yoga website and the booking of any training programmes offered by us. By submitting a signed Student Agreement or making a payment, you agree to be bound by these terms.

The Abhyasa School of Yoga is based at El Tucan, Puerto Viejo, Limón, Costa Rica. For all correspondence please contact us at hola@theabhyasaschool.com


2. Eligibility

All training programmes are open to participants aged 18 years and over only. By submitting an application you confirm that you are 18 years of age or older.


3. Health & Medical Conditions

In line with industry standard practice for yoga teacher training, we require all participants to complete a health disclosure prior to attending any training. By booking, you confirm that:
 

  • You are in suitable physical and mental health to participate in an intensive yoga teacher training programme

  • You will disclose any relevant medical conditions, injuries, physical limitations or mental health considerations that may affect your participation

  • You will seek medical advice before attending if you are unsure whether training is suitable for you
     

We reserve the right to decline or remove a participant from training if we consider it unsafe for them or others to continue, at our sole discretion.


4. Student Agreement

4.1 All students are required to sign a Student Agreement prior to their place being confirmed. The Student Agreement outlines the mutual responsibilities of the student and the school.
 

4.2 By signing the Student Agreement, students confirm they understand and agree to the following responsibilities:

Student responsibilities include:
 

  • Maintaining 100% attendance to meet Yoga Alliance accreditation criteria. Where this is not possible, additional hours must be completed outside the course schedule

  • Treating fellow students and teaching faculty with kindness, respect and compassion

  • Completing all payments in a timely manner in accordance with the agreed payment plan

  • Bringing any complaints, concerns or questions directly to the Lead Teacher, Shaka Xolani

  • Honouring their own learning journey and energy throughout the training
     

4.3 Any harmful, inappropriate behaviour, abuse, harassment or sexual misconduct will result in immediate removal from the course without refund and, where necessary, police involvement.


5. What is Included

5.1 The training fee includes:

  • A Yoga Alliance accredited 200hr curriculum and internationally recognised teaching qualification

  • Accommodation for the duration of the training

  • Three meals per day, including packed lunches on day excursions

  • Opening and closing ceremony, including cacao circle and gift bags

  • Two planned day excursions

  • Transport to and from San Jose airport and the venue
     

5.2 The following are available at additional cost and are not included in the training fee:

  • Thai massage and individual treatments

  • Daily transport for students living off-site

  • Meat, fish and dairy products at meal times

  • Personal travel insurance

  • Flights and travel to Costa Rica

  • Personal spending and additional activities

     

6. Bookings & Payment

6.1 Registration on the course is not confirmed until a signed Student Agreement and full payment or deposit has been received by the school.

6.2 All payment and financial arrangements must be handled by email at hola@theabhyasaschool.com

6.3 Accepted payment methods include credit card, bank transfer and online payment platforms including Stripe.

6.4 All prices are listed in US Dollars (USD). Early bird pricing is available for a limited period and subject to availability.

6.5 Full payment must be received prior to the start of the training. The final payment under any instalment plan must be received no later than 30 days prior to the training start date.

6.6 Late payments may incur a late fee of 5% of the due amount. Continued failure to make payments may result in suspension from the programme until payments are brought up to date.


7. Payment Plans

The following payment options are available:

  • Pay in full — full payment made within 60 days of the initial deposit

  • Deposit plus three instalments — a $500 non-refundable deposit to secure your place, followed by three equal monthly instalments

  • Deposit plus monthly instalments — a $500 non-refundable deposit to secure your place, followed by equal monthly payments divided evenly over the remaining months before the training start date. Final payment must be made 30 days prior to the start date.

All payment plans must be agreed in writing with the school prior to booking confirmation.


8. Cancellation Policy

Cancellation by the student:

8.1 All cancellations must be submitted in writing to hola@theabhyasaschool.com

8.2 The following refund policy applies:

  • Cancellation more than 60 days before the training start date — full refund of tuition paid, minus deposit and any payment processing fees incurred

  • Cancellation 30–60 days before the training start date — 50% refund of tuition paid, minus deposit and any payment processing fees incurred

  • Cancellation less than 30 days before the training start date — no refund

8.3 The $500 deposit is non-refundable in all circumstances. In exceptional circumstances, the deposit may be transferred to a future training date at the school's discretion.

8.4 If a student withdraws after the programme has started, no refund will be provided. Under special circumstances, a prorated credit towards a future programme may be considered at the school's discretion.

8.5 In cases of medical emergency or other significant unforeseen circumstances, partial refunds or credits for future programmes may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Supporting documentation may be required.

8.6 Refunds will be processed within 14 days of receiving a written refund request.

8.7 We strongly recommend that all participants take out comprehensive travel and cancellation insurance to cover circumstances beyond their control.

Cancellation by the school:

8.8 In the unlikely event that The Abhyasa School of Yoga cancels a training programme, students will receive a full refund of all tuition paid. Alternatively, students may choose to apply their tuition to another programme offered by the school.

8.9 We will not be liable for any additional costs incurred by participants in connection with a cancellation by us, including travel, accommodation or visa costs. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance.


9. Certification & Yoga Alliance Accreditation

9.1 All training programmes are accredited by the Yoga Alliance and meet international standards and requirements.

9.2 Certification is awarded upon successful completion of the full training programme, including all required hours, assessments and attendance requirements.

9.3 We reserve the right to withhold certification where a participant has not met the required standards, has not completed the full programme, or has outstanding payments.


10. Liability

10.1 Participation in yoga teacher training involves physical activity and carries inherent risks. You participate entirely at your own risk.

10.2 The Abhyasa School of Yoga, its directors, teachers and staff accept no liability for any injury, illness, loss or damage arising from your participation in any training programme, except where such liability cannot be excluded by law.

10.3 We accept no responsibility for loss or damage to personal property during the training.

10.4 Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be lawfully excluded.


11. Intellectual Property

11.1 All content, materials and resources provided as part of the training are the intellectual property of The Abhyasa School of Yoga and are provided for your personal use only.

11.2 You may not reproduce, distribute or share any training materials without our prior written consent.


12. Privacy

Your personal data will be collected and processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms and Conditions and is available on our website.


13. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Costa Rica. Where you are a consumer resident in the UK or European Union, you retain the benefit of any mandatory consumer protection rights applicable in your country of residence.
 

14. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms and Conditions at any time. Changes will not affect bookings already confirmed at the time of the change.
